Upcoming Books Illustrated Events June 2015

Federation Square Book Market with Judy Watson - Saturday June 13
Judy will join us from 12pm to 3pm.

Meet Judy and celebrate the release of her latest picture book Thunderstorm Dancing, written by Katrina Germein and published by Allen & Unwin. Thunderstorm Dancing is a rumbling tumbling story about a family that dances through a wild thunderstorm, and a little girl who shines in the golden calm when the storm passes.

Judy Watson is a Melbourne based illustrator and designer who has illustrated a number of children's books, including the Extraordinary Ernie and Marvellous Maud series by Frances Watts.

The first Ernie and Maud book became a Notable Book in the Younger Readers category of the 2009 CBCA Book of the Year Awards. Her picture book with Frances Watts Goodnight, Mice! won the Prime Minister's Literary Award for Children's Fiction in 2012.

You can find lots of interesting information about this new book on Judy’s website including the fact that it took her three years to illustrate. The medium and techniques she used were ink and watercolour on litho paper with digital overlays added on the computer. You can also read about the progress of her current book Leonard Doesn’t Dance.

Judy will be demonstrating some of her techniques on the day and you can have a book personally signed! She’s also prepared some craft activity sheets based on the book for little ones that can be taken away.

Check out Judy's prints and books on Books Illustrated's website.

Federation Square Book Market with Judy Watson and Ann James

We had a fabulous time this Saturday at the Federation Square market. With the Bank Holiday weekend and Food and Wine Festival in full swing there was an exciting atmosphere at the market.
Books Illustrated attends the market on the second Saturday of each month. As well as a range of quality children's books and a display of prints, we have the added attraction of an illustrator working on our stand being filmed live and shown on the big screen!
This week Judy Watson and Ann James were illustrating live and signing books. Here are some photographs of Judy at work with her picture book Goodnight, Mice! on display.
